The Boston Celtics are looking to solidify their depth by adding Sean Kilpatrick
The Boston Celtics have been blasted with injuries, an even though Jaylen Brown could be returning soon, they need as much help as they can get at the end of the bench. The Celtics have been getting amazing contributions during this stretch of injuries, but they are going to struggle if they are regularly giving minutes to Abdel Nader and Guerschon Yabusele.
Who knows if he will manage to have an impact on a single game, and he there is a good chance that he will not go beyond the 10 day contract, but the Celtics are expected to bring in and give Sean Kilpatrick a chance to give them some much needed depth.
With all these injuries, the Celtics really will take any positive contribution they can get. This is not a matter of filling a desperate and particular need, because it is impossible to tell exactly what is needed when you have these kinds of injuries, and there are multiple ways that Kilpatrick can be used.

Kilpatrick is far from a good three point shooter, but the Celtics will look to him to try and hit the open shots they know they can generate. He brings size to their back court, which is vitally important with both Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown out.
He cannot be held to their kind of defensive standard, but Stevens likes to use length in the back court, and he can find a way to contribute on defense. If Kipatrick can be a serviceable defender, while being trusted just to hit his most open shots, he could remain with the team beyond that first 10 days.
The Celtics are at a point where Shane Larkin needs to play significant minutes, and they lose a lot of size their. With so much versatility lost with Daniel Theis, Brown and Smart, the Celtics want as much size as they can get in the back court, and that is one thing they know they can get from Kilpatrick.

You cannot expect much from this signing, and it would not be surprising to see the Celtics try out a few more of these kinds of deals. Kilpatrick has proven that he can be a capable contributor, and maybe Stevens will be able to work some magic on him and turn him into a solid injury replacement.
