The Boston Celtics are looking for shooting depth by signing Jarell Eddie

The Boston Celtics have signed Jarell Eddie form the G League to a 10 day contract. This is  not the kind of move you need to pay too much attention too, because it is unlikely to materialize into anything. That being said, it is a clear sign that the Celtics want more shooting from their second unit, which has been a major concern at times.

Eddie has actually hit just over 50 percent of his three point attempts in the G League this season, which is quite easy to get excited about. Obviously, this is just in the G League and absolutely nothing done there can be trusted until it translates to the NBA, but if he can bring some pure shooting, then you can expect another contract to come his way.

Taking into account preseason expectations, the Celtics have been disappointing on offense this season. People were expecting better shooting and a bit more ball movement, and this is clearly as offense that is still discovering their identity.

More from Hardwood Houdini

One problem that has been easy to identify is how brutally inconsistent the bench is. When you have primary options like Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier, who are far from trusted shooters, you leave yourself susceptible to awfully cold stretches.

The Celtics have seen the second unit go extended periods where they fail to hit even 35 percent from the field, and it has cost them games this season. Eddie is never going to be any kind of game changer for the Celtics. The most optimistic outlooks for these kinds of moves do not go beyond just adding more depth, and shooting depth could be quite valuable to the Celtics this season.

If Eddie never sees the court for the Celtics, it would not be too much of a surprise. The Celtics found an interesting option, and with the 10 day contract they get to feel out if they think there is a chance some of that shooting translates to the NBA.

If Eddie can prove to the Celtics that he will be hitting his open shots, while not being too much of a liability on the defensive end, then he could end up being a sneaky good signing by the Celtics.
