Guerschon Yabusele has rejoined the Boston Celtics after a brief stint with the Maine Red Claws
Just a few days after it looked like Guerschon Yabusele had all but lost any chance at a role on the Boston Celtics, he is back where he needs to be. Yabusele was sent down to the Maine Red Claws, proceeded to drop 27 points, and now he is back on an NBA court (Via Boston Celtics).
I would not expect Yabusele to have any kind of significant role, but the Celtics are clearly interested in getting him as many on court reps as possible.
This could be the beginning of a trend. Yabusele will not get the minutes he needs to develop on the NBA roster, so when there is an opening he will go down to Maine.
The timing is definitely not a coincidence. The Celtics had their two day break, and that opened up a window to get Yabusele more minutes while being able to have him on the bench for the games.

I know fans would love to see Yabusele finally get a role, and it is still not out of the question. Clearly he is right at the bottom of the front court rotation right now, but the minute distribution there has been all over place.
As long as Daniel Theis and Semi Ojeleye continue to play great, there will not be a role for Yabusele. That being said, the Celtics are making sure they have as many options that are as prepared as possible.
Those other two bigs get the minutes they need for Stevens to evaluate them in the NBA games. With Yabusele, he would not be able to make any progress without going down to the Red Claws. Yabusele is just serving as extra depth now, for the occasions when the other young bigs are struggling.
This does mean that the Celtics should feel great about their front court depth. They have young bigs that are working really well right now, and are a major part of this great defense. Then they also have another promising big who is waiting to leave him imprint on the season. Perhaps he just needed a but more time to get comfortable than the other two, or maybe one of the others will have peaked early.

In any case, the Celtics are trying to make sure that Yabusele does not get stuck without any minutes anywhere, so any chance he gets to go on the Red Claws and impress the team like he did is going to be vital to earning him a real role on the team.
