Marcus Morris will travel with the Boston Celtics on the coming road trip

The Boston Celtics are finally getting good news about Marcus Morris‘ injury. After missing all of training camp because of a trial, he has taken the first two weeks of the season to get in game shape.

The Celtics have not yet officially announced when he will actually play, but Morris is traveling on the road trip and could make his debut soon (Via CelticsBlog).

The Celtics have been waiting a long time to get at full strength this season, and it will be nice to finally be able to integrate a player who was at one point expected to be the starter.

The problem is that Morris is still going to need time before taking on a big role. The other problem is that the Celtics have been getting great front court contributions from the bench.

More from Hardwood Houdini

It is not easy to justify taking minutes away from Daniel Theis or Semi Ojeleye, and that will not leave many opportunities for Morris.

He will be eased into anything that he will do with this team. They have been incredibly patient so far, and it should stay that way. His minutes will have to gradually increase, and what he does with those minutes will determine how many more he will get.

The Celtics could get even better on defense with Morris, and that upside is intriguing. That being said, he needs to prove it first. We will see if he can hold up in some of the smaller situations, because the Celtics cannot afford to lose the edge they are getting inside.

Morris can help in that area, but with how well everyone else is playing, the standard will be higher for him to take on a significant role.

Everyone on this team is transitioning, and Morris is behind everyone in terms of getting comfortable with the players and how they want to play. The Celtics are on a six game wining streak, and they will not risk what they are doing now to force Morris into a once expected role.

It is a great sign that Morris is traveling with the team, but we are at a point where expectations for what he does once he returns, at least at the beginning, need to be tempered.
