The Boston Celtics are seeing a new Jaylen Brown on offense, but can he keep it up?

As of right now, Jaylen Brown is the second leading scorer on the Boston Celtics at 15.4 points per game, just barely edging Al Horford and Jayson Tatum. It has been a lot of fun watching Brown’s growth on offense, but there are questions about the sustainability.

Brown has been having some consistency issues, and that has caused his numbers to fluctuate a lot this season. That being said, he has also shown a multitude of ways that he is capable of scoring, and he is always the most aggressive player on the court.

Brown is starting to legitimize himself as a shooting threat, but his percentages have come down to earth recently. Brown may not be a crazy efficient knockdown shooter, but he can be trusted to hit his open shots and is rarely forces things from outside.

Inside is where things get most interesting for Tatum. He has no problem attacking anyone who is in his way going to the paint, and he has been bullying defenders with his physical ability.

More from Hardwood Houdini

Brown’s ability to finish through contact might already be the best on this team, and players have no hope of slowing him down in transition.

He looks like he wants to shatter the back board at least three times a game, and has been one of the most exciting finishers on the team.

He has the ups and downs, but his 15 points per game are a great sign for him, and if he can keep that up then he will be one of the most well rounded players in the NBA.

Chances are his outside shooting will prevent him from maintaining these numbers, and will ultimately limit is offensive impact. That being said, Brown is still discovering the best ways he wants to attack, and when things settle he could get back some of his efficiency.

There are clearly some problems with Brown’s overall impact on offense. He appears to get into his own head sometimes, making the kind of mistakes that he knows he is capable pf avoiding.

Brown will inevitably have the bad shooting games, but the key will be making sure he always has the defense to back it up. As long as Brown is playing defense, Stevens will accept some of the bad offensive nights.

15 points per game and the second leading scorer on the team may be a bit unrealistic for Brown at this point. That being said, we have seen clear ability to take over the game on the offensive end, and it will be difficult for Tatum or Horford to gain that much ground on him.

Brown is continually involved on the offensive end, and he does very little for distribution. When Brown is creating it is usually for himself, and while that limits his overall impact, it puts him in a position to control these scoring rankings.

Brown has been a surprise to almost everyone on offense this season, and he still has a lot of ways he needs to improve. Brown is one of the biggest mysteries on the team, and how well he maintains his great scoring to start the season will have a massive bearing on what the playoffs in the East will look like.
