Gordon Hayward has no time to idle around as he recovers from an expected season ending injury

You would think that after suffering an injury as brutal as Gordon Hayward‘s, 100 percent of the focus and effort would be on getting ready physically. We have already seen that Hayward is as focused as anyone as making sure he is going to return to his physical self once he overcomes this injury.

That alone is a near impossible sounding task, and Hayward is taking on even more. Brad Stevens is making sure that Hayward’s mind is staying fresh as he fights through this recovery, once again showing how prepared this team always is for the future.

Hayward does not just want to return to the court, he wants to return to the court at his all star level, and being that level of a basketball player is a lot more than just the physical tools.

Right now, it appears as though the Celtics are using Hayward for scouting assignments, allowing him to help with the scouting staff, as well as keep his mind engaged with the team (Via Boston Sports Journal).

More from Hardwood Houdini

It was easy to see how well Stevens and Hayward were going to mesh as a player coach combo. They have all the history, and similar demeanor that will make sure they never clash on anything.

Now we are also seeing more similarities in their approach. Stevens has mastered the game of basketball in his mind, and Hayward is making sure that he does not lose any of that basketball intellect as he goes through what could be an unbearable recovery.

Nobody really knows how a player will bounce back from an injury this bad, but it is abundantly clear that Hayward and the Celtics are going to do each and every thing to make sure that Hayward can get back to his All-Star form as quickly as possible, and make sure that the future of this team is not hurt by this injury.

It is obvious how detrimental this injury is for this season, and it drastically reduced any chances of reaching and battling for an NBA championship. That being said, the culmination of this core is still in the future and the number one priority is making sure that Hayward is still finding different ways to grow as a player off the court, as his teammates are growing on the court.

Right now it is a scouting assignment, but I would expect Hayward to continually be involved in anything the Celtics are trying to do this season.
