How do the Boston Celtics stack up with the most talented teams in the NBA?

The NBA is a big and scary place, especially for the teams that have no chance this upcoming season. Some examples of those teams include the Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, and Phoenix Suns. Luckily, the Boston Celtics are not one of those teams.

In fact, the Celtics are a team that could be contenders not only in the Eastern Conference, but the entire league as well. That being said, Boston is one of the few teams from the East that actually stand a chance this year. Consistently, Boston is matched up against a team like the Cleveland Cavaliers, but what about teams out in the West?

Thinking of Boston is regard to the entire NBA, the Celtics are clearly not the best team. Sorry Celtics fans, but I’ll direct you towards the Golden State Warriors if you have any disputes.

Anyway, if you readers remember a recent piece that I wrote regarding a potential NBA Finals matchup between the Celtics and Warriors, clearly that topic has already been debated, so we’ll exclude Golden State for this topic.

More from Hardwood Houdini

Earlier, I said the NBA is big and scary. The reason I said this is because so many more Western Conference teams can defeat Boston over the course of the 2018 season. To name a couple, let’s say the Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and San Antonio Spurs.

First off, any of these series could go any way, so I’m not saying any of these teams are necessarily better than Boston. I just thought I’d put that out there very quickly before I get loads of comments telling me that I have no knowledge regarding Boston or basketball in general.

Anyway, Houston could definitely be a problem for Boston. With the new addition of Chris Paul combined with the star shooting guard James Harden, this team should have of the best offenses in the entire league. Eric Gordon should also be a front runner for 6th Man of the Year.

For Oklahoma City, this team managed to gain Paul George and Carmelo Anthony and pair them with the current MVP, Russell Westbrook. Boston will have a very tough time shutting this team down, especially when all the Thunder need are for just one of these guys to be on their game in order to win.

Finally, San Antonio. Honestly, I think Boston should still be able to beat this team and I have little confidence in the Spurs. However, it would be criminal of me to not factor in the all-around talent of Kawhi Leonard. For that reason only, I think San Antonio has a chance against Boston (although not too high).

Boston is going to be a great team this year (I think the preseason has proved that theory correct). They may have few enemies to keep an eye out for in the East, but the West is much different. Boston is setting up for a long and successful season, let’s just hope that they can handle the toughness out west.
