If the Boston Celtics manage to get past the Cavaliers, what are their chances against the Warriors?

Ok, so last time I wrote, I covered whether or not Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics could defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers on opening night in Cleveland. This time however, I want to take a similar question all the way to the top.

Hypothetically, if the Celtics were able to rally and defeat the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals this upcoming season (assuming that the Cavaliers make the Conference Finals), would that same Boston team be able to hoist the championship banner 4-7 games later?

In essence, I’m pretty much asking whether or not the Celtics could beat the Golden State Warriors in a best of seven games series. Although the West has made some major improvements this offseason, we won’t consider them in this hypothetical scenario.

First off, we all know that the Celtics have made some great changes in their offseason as well as some other teams, the two big additions being Uncle Drew and Gordon Hayward. But could the entire roster be good enough to take down the defending champions?

Before I answer that, let’s look at some other key players on the Celtics roster. The two young (potential) stars in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are predicted to have great upcoming seasons and possibly, great careers. So clearly, their talent off of the bench will be a necessity if this team is going to be able to maintain leads throughout games.

Two other role players that need to step up are Marcus Smart and Al Horford. Smart has always been a key igniter for Boston’s intensity in general, and he’ll be extremely important in order to keep the intensity at a high level. For Horford, he was a key post presence in last year’s team, and he’ll need to continue his tough presence if Boston wants to continue to dominate the paint.

Irving and Hayward can’t do it alone, and it’ll take the entire Celtics team in order for Boston to even have a chance in a seven game series against the Warriors.

For Golden State, not much has changed since the 2017 NBA Finals. The “Core Four” of Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Stephen Curry is still present, and these four will continue to be a nightmare for any team that stands in their way.

The thing is, I don’t even have to mention any of their key role players off of the bench to make this team scarier, because the four stars alone are enough to scare competitors out of the Oracle Arena.

Finally, thinking of all of these players, is it possible that Boston could walk out of the Bay Area with an 18th championship to their name? Well, obviously it’s possible, however I believe that it is highly improbable.

I know all of you Celtics fans don’t like hearing that, but come on! You think that as of right now, the Celtics could take down the dynasty (assuming everyone stays) of a team that is Golden State? To be honest, I doubt the Celtics could even defeat Cleveland in a best of seven series.

Agree or disagree, this series would still be a ton of fun to witness. I hope that this hypothetical can become reality come next June, but I doubt it.
