Boston Can’t Afford To Give Up Brown Or Tatum

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum should be off the trade table for the Boston Celtics

Ok. Hang on a minute. If I’m not mistaken, the Cleveland Cavaliers are actually debating on whether to ask the Boston Celtics for more pieces in the Kyrie Irving deal.

I was being rhetorical, but of course I’m not mistaken. And more specifically, the Cavaliers are reportedly thinking about asking for either Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown in order to complete the trade.

Now, before I tear this potential deal to shreds, let me just say that if this deal were to occur, Cleveland would receive Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, the Brooklyn Nets’ unprotected 2018 first round draft pick, and Tatum or Brown and Boston would receive Kyrie Irving.

Let that last sentence sink in for a moment everyone. If I’m not the only human with a normally functioning brain, then we can all agree that Cleveland is clearly trying to screw Boston in this deal.

Adding on to that, my hope is that the Celtics’ front office has the intelligence and sensibility to deny Cleveland of literally robbing Boston of many young and talented players.

To be honest, I wasn’t even a fan of the original deal, but there is no way that Danny Ainge can allow Cleveland to complete this nightmare of a trade.

Although Thomas’ hip is being used as the terrible excuse for Cleveland to have the audacity to demand more than the original deal, I still think that Boston would be doing themselves a disservice by letting Cleveland try to make themselves look sensible.

Also, let’s be honest, Irving is not worth all of those assets, because as I’ve said before, Irving is barely an upgrade from Thomas in the first place, but then we have to factor in all of the pieces being given up for this minimal upgrade.

Finally, the main problem with this updated trade possibility: Brown and Tatum should be off limits. Plain and simple, Cleveland has no right asking Boston for this much in return for one player, let alone potential future stars.

Brown showed great potential in his rookie season. Although posting only 6.6 ppg along with 2.8 rpg, his role with the Celtics is set to rise this upcoming season. Couple Brown with Tatum this October, and Boston could have a scary young duo to reek havoc on the rest of the NBA.

In essence, Boston should not allow Cleveland to bully this deal into them. The original trade was bad enough, but the trade that could soon become a reality is too far.

Celtics fans, let us hope that Ainge and the rest of the Celtics’ front office stays (at least) loyal enough to Tatum and Brown (don’t get me started on Thomas).
