Andrew Bogut could fill a nice role for the final Boston Celtics roster spot

After the blockbuster trade that transformed the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics find themselves with an extra roster spot. Given the state of the talent on the team, most are expecting the Celtics to go after a big, and it appears as though they may already be talking to Andrew Bogut (Via CSNNE).

There is a good chance that this final roster spot will be inconsequential. The Celtics will not be changing anything because of this player, but with so much youth on the team, it could be valuable to get an experienced big.

Bogut is nothing like the versatile bigs that the Celtics have been investing draft picks on. He will never have the same kind of role that Guerschon Yabusele or Semi Ojeleye will be looking to fill.

That being said, the Celtics do not have many options that can defend and rebound like Bogut, certainly not with the same level of trust.

More from Hardwood Houdini

After losing Ante Zizic, the only traditional big the Celtics have left is Aron Baynes. Baynes can certainly be a serviceable player, but it hard to have confidence in improving the rebounding when it all hinges on him. He is fresher, but Baynes has never played at the high level that Bogut has in the past.

Who knows how much Bogut has left in him, he could be washed up and a non contributor. That being said, if Bogut brings back some of the impact he had in his glory days with the Warriors, then you could give him a long shot at the starting lineup.

When it comes to rebounding and a defensive presence in the paint, the Celtics are always looking for something they can trust.

There is so much uncertainty on this team, and with so little stability in the front court, Bogut could help cut down on the mistakes from so many young players.

This is not the move that is going to be the difference in getting to a championship, but the Celtics still do not know how all their pieces are going to fit together.

Brad Stevens has more than enough versatility and youth at his disposal, and having a traditional safe option like Bogut to help calm things down in certain situations could prove to be valuable to a team that has just four members returning from a season ago.
