Marcus Morris gets his day in court for assault allegations from 2015

Before you start wondering if this is going to make the Boston Celtics regret getting Marcus Morris back for Avery Bradley because of the off field issues, this is stemming from an event that occurred well before the trade was made, so the team knew that this was coming.

In any case, the Morris twins will appear in court on August 28th for the assault allegations stemming from an incident in 2015 (Via Boston Globe).

There is no reason for additional concern, because the Celtics front office had to have been anticipating this. Whether or not the results of the hearing have any bearing on Morris this season is a different story.

There should not be too much concern, because too great of a risk would have turned the Celtics away from acquiring him. That being said, off field issues cannot be ignored, even if they occurred multiple years ago while on a different team.

More from Hardwood Houdini

The fact of the matter is that Morris now represents the Celtics, and that will be reflected once this mess is handled.

Both Morris twins are being accused in the incident, and both of them are denying any involvement. If they are not found guilty, then this will be a complete non factor. If, however, they are found guilty, then there could be repercussions. If a player is convicted of a violent felony, they will be suspended for at least 10 games (Via Boston Globe).

Fortunately, the Celtics season does not hinge on Morris. He can certainly contribute and can definitely make a difference on this roster. That being said, he is not a crucial part of any of their plans, and they have other options behind him, that they may end up preferring no matter how the case is resolved.

I suppose you can look at this as a minor blemish in what has been a phenomenal off season for the Celtics. This is something to monitor, because a guilty verdict could change things. Fortunately, the fact that the Celtics acquired him while anticipating this should appease any real worry of the fans.
