The Silent But Deadly Boston Celtics
The Cavaliers are dominating the headlines but the Boston Celtics are making the right offseason moves
When’s the last time the NBA news stream wasn’t dominated by the whole Kyrie Irving drama? A week? Well, it’s been going on for a long time now, but as the primary powerhouse in the East begins crumble, the Boston Celtics continue to grow.

Over the past week, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been covered with media and controversy. After Irving surprisingly asked for a trade from the 2016 NBA champions last week, stories about Lebron James supposedly being upset with Irving have circulated.
Although the King has reportedly denied any harsh feelings between himself and Irving, certain events have proven otherwise (Irving unfollowed James on instagram recently). It could be the media simply reading too deeply into minor cases, but nevertheless, something is wrong in Cleveland.
On the other side of the spectrum, Boston couldn’t be doing better. Their young rookie, Jayson Tatum, performed tremendously in this year’s NBA Summer League, and the Celtics even signed Gordon Hayward a few weeks ago.

Not only that, but Boston even made some minor adjustments to the roster that could prove to be very important come next season. The Celtics recently signed Daniel Theis over from the Euro League, as well as another rookie forward: Semi Ojeleye.
The Celtics were even able to acquire Aron Baynes just a week ago, along with Marcus Morris from the Detroit trade. Although the team will miss Avery Bradley (especially his defense) very much, there is no doubt that Boston has made lots of improvements thus far in the offseason.
Compare all of those new players signed by Boston to Cleveland’s one relevant signing, Derrick Rose, and it is obvious that Cleveland’s offseason has been nowhere near as impressive as Boston’s.
All of this information regarding the offseason aside, even though Cleveland has dominated the headlines over the past week, Ainge and the rest of the front office have silently snuck under the radar and created lots of potential for the Celtics to strike down on the rest of the league next season.
That being said, if Uncle Drew is indeed traded, Cleveland could get lots of assets in exchange, or worse, they could get another superstar to pair with James and Rose.

For now though, Cleveland can continue to dominate the headlines, because if Boston continues to slither their way past the media and into title contention, then come next season, Boston could be the ones hoisting the 2018 Eastern Conference Champions banner, and not the Cavaliers.
