Bench the Boston Celtics starters please

BOSTON, MA - MAY 25: Jaylen Brown
BOSTON, MA - MAY 25: Jaylen Brown

Okay crazy, but there are eight games on the Boston Celtics schedule where it would be awesome if they benched the starters. It’s about the future. Let me explain.

There are two teams, The  Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukie Bucks, that are loaded with young talent. Both of these teams are building to be powerhouses. The same can be said of the Boston Celtics. Wouldn’t it be great to get a glimpse of the future?

While the schedule hasn’t been released yet, imagine its October and the 76ers are coming to town. All of the older Celtics, you know those 27 year olds, catch a 24 hour bug and the team has to play all its kids.

The Sixers would have Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz and Robert Covington. The Celtics would have Terry Rozier, Jaylen Brown, Ante Zizic, Marcus Smart and Jayson Tatum. Now that’s a matchup I want to see.

Say the next week the Milwaukie Bucks are up. With Giannis Atetokounmpo, Jabari Parker, Matthew Dellavadova, Khris Middleton and last years ROY Malcom Brogdon they have a pretty  strong and youthful core. How would our Celtics kids compare?

This won’t happen but wouldn’t it be intriguing.

Both of these teams, the 76ers and the Bucks, have bigs that would be tough assignments for Zizic. That said, Zizic is tough, competitive and has the size and length to give them trouble.

At the wing I think the advantage goes to the Celtics over both  teams. I would trust Brown and Tatum to more than hold their own. My  guess is they would dominate. I think Rozier and Smart would hold their own as well. Still watching them play against Simmons and Fultz would be amazing.

As things sit today these three teams are the future of the eastern conference. Most of these players should have long storied careers. We’ll get to see how this plays out in the years to come. That’s why a preview would be awesome.

Celtics fans should pay attention to the 76ers and the Bucks because a showdown is coming. Maybe not this season but soon we’ll have to deal with the talent those two teams have amassed. Its good to know that the Celtics will definitely  be up to the task.

One down side for the Celtics is that three years from now the youngsters on the Bucks and 76ers will have played way more minutes than the Celtics kids. Further, the Celtics kids may still have deal with those old decrepit 30 year olds still on the team.
