The Celtics are in a great position compared to more than half the NBA right now, and that should be celebrated.

It seems like a new rumor comes out every 30 minutes about a star player becoming available. For every rumor that has come out, it also seems that the Celtics are in the middle of it.

The reason for this is largely due to the fact that no team in the NBA has more assets than the Celtics. Also, Boston is close to being one of the two best teams in the league and seriously competing for championships.

However, the main reason that the Celtics are in a position to capitalize on other team’s dysfunction is that they are a world class organization. If it weren’t for Wyc Grousbeck, Steve Pagliuca, Danny Ainge, and Brad Stevens, who knows where the franchise would be.

Just look at the other teams in the NBA. Cleveland just let their general manager go after three straight trips to the finals, and LeBron James is not happy about it. Phil Jackson is creating a disaster out in New York with his big ego and incompetence with personnel, and the Pacers are being forced to trade their best player because he has already told them he’s leaving for LA.

The Celtics can just sit back and try to take advantage of everything that these are messing up. This is why Ainge preached patience with using their abundance of assets. There will always be a team that will shell out a player for less than what he is worth because of their own dysfunction messing up the roster.

We aren’t even close to being done with this offseason’s rumors, but I guarantee you that the Celtics will be at the center of every one of them until they make the deal that they want.

Being in the middle of every rumor and not making a deal is not a bad thing. All it does is show that the deal wasn’t right, and that there will certainly be another one that comes around. Last year when Jimmy Butler was rumored to be traded to Boston, and it didn’t happen, fans were furious. Now the Celtics can trade for him for a smaller package because they waited for the right deal.

The Celtics still might not make a move for Butler, or any other available star on the market, but it’s important to note the fact that they’re in the thick of things every time. It’s only a matter of time until Ainge takes that big swing to start contending with the Warriors and Cavaliers on the NBA’s mountaintop.
