Isaiah Thomas put together a career performance against the Washington Wizards

Just when you thought you saw it all, Isaiah Thomas delivers another performance for the ages, and completely blows your mind. This time it was in the form of a 53-point performance at TD Garden, and the Boston Celtics are suddenly up 2-0 on the Washington Wizards.

Thomas was just one point shy of the great John Havlicek for the franchise postseason record. He scored 29 of his 53 points in the 4th quarter and in overtime. Yes, the 4th quarter is still IT time. John Wall added 40 points and 13 assists in the defeat.

Most importantly, May 2nd would have been the 23rd birthday of Chyna Thomas. Thomas made it very clear who is he was playing for Tuesday night.

TNT sideline reporter Davide Aldridge has just one question for the ALL-Star point guard: “Where is this coming from, man?”

“It’s my sister,” Thomas replied. “It’s her birthday today. Happy birthday. She would have been 23 today. Everything I do is for her. And she’s watching over me. So that’s all her.”

Thomas had some extra inspiration Tuesday night to fuel his historic performance. And through his play, he continues to inspire coaches, players, fans, and many others. Keep in mind, Thomas was extremely sore from having oral surgery on Monday, as we saw him play with a mouth guard in Game 2.

No matter the adversity that this 5’9″ guy faces, he continues to fight and push through. Who would have imagined the 60th pick in the 2011 draft eventually scoring 53 points in a playoff game with a franchise like the Celtics?

“It just wasn’t a good day for me with it being my sister’s birthday, me being in the hospital for three or four hours today.”

“I just didn’t have the energy. But once I got around the guys, got to the arena, I felt like I could go. And I told [coach Brad Stevens] I could. There was no way I couldn’t play on [Chyna’s] birthday. I wanted to win for her. I wanted to play well for her.”

“The least I can do is go out there and play for her.”

The Celtics play in D.C. on Thursday. I would say Thomas has done it all, and that he can’t possibly surpass this performance. However, he continues to surprise us. Expect the unexpected.
