Report Card: Boston Celtics Draft
By Jeremy Karll
58th Pick – Abdel Nader
After having questionable character issues during his time at Northern Illinois, Abdel Nader transferred to Iowa State for his final two seasons. He didn’t see much playing time his first season in Ames, Iowa, although, averaged 31.1 minutes per game as a senior.

At 6’6″ and 230 pounds, Nader has good size for a shooting guard. He’s not very explosive so he tries to do most of his scoring from behind the arc. Nader shot a career-best 37.1 percent from three last season on four three-point attempts per game. He also added five rebounds and 1.1 boards per game.
Nader has already agreed to spend his rookie season in the D-League. With an abundance of guards, it seems unlikely that Nader will see many minutes with the Celtics during his career. He’ll still likely play on their Summer League team and should see decent minutes in Maine.
It’s always nice to see seniors getting selected at the end of the draft, however, there were a lot of very good undrafted players who may have been able to make an impact on Boston. It’s hard to find even bench players late in the draft, but this selection confused me as Nader put together a respectable but not a special season at Iowa State.
