Toronto and Cleveland have stood above the rest of the pack in the eastern conference and they would undoubtedly be the two hardest match ups for the Boston Celtics in the first round. Fortunately, they have got some separation from the 7 and 8 seeds in the east and barring a collapse they should avoid the top 2 teams in the first round. Although, the injury to Jae Crowder could have the Celtics facing one of the top 2 teams much earlier than they anticipated.

After those two, there are currently 6 teams that are separated by 5 games or fewer in the eastern conference and the Celtics could easily draw any of them in the first round. Even the Wizards and the Bucks are currently long shots but remain alive in the playoff hunt.

The 6 other teams that are a part of the cluster of teams separated by five games in the eastern conference are the Miami Heat, the Chicago Bulls, the Indiana Pacers, the Charlotte Hornets, the Atlanta Hawks and the Detroit Pistons. There is a good chance that the Celtics will be facing one of these teams in the first round of the playoffs but predicting which one would be an impossible task at this point.

All of these teams are so close in the standings because their level of the play on the court has also been quite similar. Despite the similar success amongst these teams there are certain match ups that will favor the Celtics much more than others. Here are the 6 teams ranked from worst to best potential match ups for the Celtics
