Boston Celtics’ Rozier and Mickey Named in Louisville Scandal

Now that the Louisville sex scandal is out in full force, NBA players have been named amongst many others that were supposedly involved in the controversial recruitment technique. Two of the players named were Boston Celtics‘ own Terry Rozier and Jordan Mickey. Rozier had a phenomenal two year career under coach Pitino at Louisville, while Mickey opted to attend LSU.

Rozier claims that he was already committed before the time of the scandal. Mickey never attended LSU but he will still heavily recruited. Both players will have their explanations but with what was revealed by NESN, neither one of the rookies will be able to separate themselves from the situation

It is no surprise that players are not saying much regarding the scandal. Mickey was unavailable to comment on the situation. Rozier, on the other hand, has not remained completely silent. Rozier completely denied the allegations but had more to say about Rick Pitino.

A lot of people were certainly aware and participating in whatever was happening at Louisville. With the kind of control that coaches are given over their teams in college a lot of people will look straight to coach Pitino as an offender. Pitino may be facing a lot of backlash depending on how the situation plays out.

Even if Pitino was aware of or actively involved in the escort scandal, do not expect any players to throw him under the bus. In addition to making no comment about his awareness of the sex scandal, Rozier also had this to say about his former coach:

"I will say, though, Coach P, as far as the dorm situations and visits, he’d go out to eat with the recruits and their parents. As far as after that, he wouldn’t know. … I can say his nose is clean"

None of the people involved or named in the Louisville scandal can expect this to go away any time soon. It may be hard to imagine Rozier or Mickey being punished for the situation and it should not impact their focus on the season ahead of them.

Neither Rozier or Mickey can afford to get distracted by any of these off court issues. They are both going to be battling for minutes and a position in the rotation all year long. If Brad Stevens senses that something is lacking on the court with Rozier or Mickey because of this situation, then he will have plenty of other options to go to.
