Terry Rozier With Knee Soreness

The Boston Celtics have already had Evan Turner miss time due to a knee injury. Had Amir Johnson miss time due to an illness and had Perry Jones miss a game due to a death in the family. Now, it is Terry Rozier‘s turn to miss some time as Chris Forsberg of ESPN has reported that he is expected to miss 3-5 days.

It began with Rozier missing practice on sunday and will likely extend into the next preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets.

It is a shame to see Rozier sidelined as he has been the most impressive rookie so far this training camp and preseason but this should not set him back. If anything, this may help the Celtics in the long run.

Rozier has done a great job of taking advantage of his opportunities. Rozier truly shined against Real Madrid as he was near the team leaders with 14 points. Rozier is well on his way to having a role with the Celtics in the regular season and now his fellow rookies will get more of an opportunity to shine.

The other rookies are not the only ones who could benefit with more playing time against the Nets and in practice. In their first preseason game against Milano, the Celtics had Jones, Jordan Mickey and James Young all play under 10 minutes, with Turner missing the game entirely. It was not as bad against Real Madrid. However, Mickey and Young still failed to eclipse 15 minutes played and Johnson, Jones and Turner all missed the game.

The game against Real Madrid is also a great example of the extra opportunities. With three players missing the game they did not use those extra minutes at the top. Instead, they did not have a single player play under 10 minutes.

The Celtics will always want to see Rozier on the court but he will return in no time and those extra minutes can make all the difference against the Nets. The Celtics are carrying one guaranteed contract too many and Rozier is not one of the players that needs to worry about losing his place on the team.

Rozier missing time will leave more minutes for those fringe players to prove that they deserve that final roster spot. Rozier’s health is the main priority and the Celtics will be best off making sure nothing is rushed to get him back on the court.
