Free Agency is Upon Us, Celtics Fans
In retrospect, Celtics fans entered this offseason straight delusional. A few days ago we were debating who’d be a better fit with the Celtics: LaMarcus Aldridge or Kevin Love. However, we should’ve been debating whether Bismack Biyombo or Carlos Boozer (please no) looked better in green.
The point is, expectations change and at this this point, our expectations couldn’t be any lower. Inflated expectations can be a dangerous thing, thus, it may be for the best that we’re now entering free agency with as low expectations as we possible.

Last week, we thought we’d be able to bring back Paul Pierce by tempting him with a possible starting lineup of Smart-Bradley-Pierce-Love-R. Lopez. This week, however, it looks like we’ll be rebuilding for the third season in a row.
Greg Monroe seemed to be our fallback to Love or Aldridge. Now, he’s favored to land in New York or Los Angeles. So it goes.
Today, we also heard Jimmy Butler is no longer scheduled to meet with the Celtics (we didn’t know he had plans in the first place – but it still hurts, DAMNIT!).
Kevin Love looks like he’ll be doing the expected and team up with our nemesis-LeBron James once again.
Perhaps we should’ve seen this coming as soon as Adam Silver announced Terry Rozier as our first pick in the draft. Danny Ainge appears to value the point guard more than any other GM, so we should’ve known we’d be keeping him, considering Ainge was unable to flip any of our picks for Justise Winslow.
While it’s appropriate for us to keep our expectations low, there’s always a chance for the unexpected. So far everything we’ve heard has come from league insiders, who may or may not know what they’re talking about. It’s important to remember these insiders must satiate the thirst of their audience and superiors alike, thus, they may be stretching with some of their stories. Nothing’s definite until the free agent signs the contract.
For instance, it looked like a sure thing that Monroe would be headed to New York. However, it appears Los Angeles may have overtaken them in the Monroe sweepstakes.
Also, who would’ve ever expected Dwyane Wade to ever leave Miami?
The unexpected will happen this offseason. Players will be going places we’d have never expected while GMs will sign players to deals we’ll scrutinize years later.
Danny will be exercising caution this free agency, as he’d just as quickly pounce at signing a star as he’d back away from overpaying a player.
So here we are at the dawn of the 2015 free agency. It looks like the cards are stacked against the Celtics to sign a max-salary player, yet that may all be for the best as this season be be an invaluable opportunity to further develop our young prospects while prepping for an even more rewarding 2016 free agency crop (not to mention our promising Nets and Mavericks picks…Ben Simmons please.
Sleep tight, Celtics fans and Godspeed, Danny.
