The Boston Celtics Should Take a Chance and Go After Kevin Durant this Offseason

According to many of the people around the team the Boston Celtics are expected to be active this summer and based on all the draft picks and cap space they will have it is a pretty safe bet.

One player that seems to be somewhat available via trade is Kevin Durant. The Oklahoma City Thunder haven’t outright said that he’s available. In fact they’ve said the opposite, but the Celtics may have enough in terms of draft picks and young players that can get them to budge on their stance.

Durant has had his foot problems this season, and that’s scary. A tall man with foot problems can be problematic and recurring, check out Brook Lopez. He had three surgeries in one year with his foot issues.

Kevin Durant, being a free agent next summer, can throw a wrench into it because he can just walk. But I believe the Celtics should try and make the move anyways. Boston has been known to be able to convince players with no extension to stay, the latest to do that was Kevin Garnett.

Garnett has been a huge ambassador for free agents to go to Boston, and people to stay in Boston.

When you think about it, the Celtics never really lost one of their big free agents. They don’t really sign them, but when they have the big time players they don’t lose them either.

Durant, one of the best players in the world when healthy, would obviously fill one the Celtics biggest needs. He’s one of the deadliest scorers in the NBA and does it at an efficient manner, which fills into the what the Celtics want to do. Brad Stevens is already really creative, imagine what he could do with a player like Durant.

It’s a pipe dream, but one where if the Celtics would put enough on the table it can pay off huge benefits for all three parties.
