The moment Brad Stevens was named head coach of the Boston Celtics he was immediately given huge praise in the form of a lengthy 6 year contract as a first year coach in the NBA. It’s not often you see even veteran coaches that are trusted enough to earn a 6 year contract but the Celtics saw something in Stevens and they knew he was the man to be at the head of their rebuild.

So far, things have been progressing phenomenally for the Celtics and for Stevens. They had an unexpected appearance in the post season and Stevens has already established a successful offensive system. Stevens earns nothing but universal praise from the rest of the NBA and its no surprise that he is being recognized by DePauw university.

In a great piece that discusses Stevens’ time at DePauw, It’s no surprise to find out that Stevens had both all conference honours for his play on the basketball court as well as all academic honours. Stevens’ mind is one of the most important pieces of the Celtics and the all economics major and management fellow owes a lot of his success to his time at DePauw.

It is a great honour for Stevens to be recognized by DePauw university but the better news is that this is likely just the beginning. Stevens has already been more successful than anticipated in the NBA and when the Celtics finally finish their rebuild he will undoubtedly be recognized in the upper echelon of coaches.

Stevens is the one individual who deserves the most credit for the Celtics’ success early on in the rebuild and even if the Celtics never manage to reel in a super star in free agency or through a trade, they should be confident that Stevens will mould his own superstar with all kinds of potential picks and prospects.

Stevens was given an opportunity to build the Celtics from the bottom up and he will have the confidence that the players he commits to will be committed to his vision and system.

The Celtics parted ways with one of the best and most established coaches in the NBA in Doc Rivers but there has never been a moment of regret. Moreso than anyone else currently on the team, Brad Stevens is the future of the Boston Celtics franchise and the Young Alumni award from DuPauw is likely to be just the beginning of incredible and universal recognition for his accomplishments.
