By now, every Boston Celtics fan has heard the countless trade rumors that surround point guard Rajon Rondo on a daily, make that hourly, basis.

Sadly, that’s just the way it goes in the world of professional sports when an athlete is approaching free agency.  It’s even worse if the player is an All-Star, and a whole S**tload worse if he’s an All-Star on a crappy team.

I’ve stated numerous times that I have enjoyed watching Rondo play for Boston, and that I would like to see him re-sign with this team for another five years.

However, that’s my heart speaking – does my brain agree?  That’s what I decided to figure out today.

Please note: I am discussing Rondo’s role on a team that is the midst of a rebuild.  I do not anticipate Boston luring one or two All-Star players to join this team in the offseason, so my entire discussion is predicated on the assumption that Boston will spend the next offseason doing more along the lines of what it did this summer: drafting young talent and picking up a few role players via free agency.
