Don't worry, we're not going to make you laugh by insinuating that Sam Hauser would be the main return the Milwaukee Bucks would get in return for Giannis Antetokounmpo. A blind man could tell you the Boston Celtics know better than that. However, where Hauser would come in handy is how he could bail the Bucks out in a Giannis trade.
The main ingredient would likely be Jaylen Brown, but with the Bucks starting over, Hauser could be used to help them gain some more cap flexibility. Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer confirmed a few days back that Milwaukee is trying to offload Bobby Portis and Kyle Kuzma.
Those two are more expensive than Hauser, but are also on shorter deals. Nonetheless, there's a fair argument that Hauser's contract is more tradable than theirs at the current moment, as his deal is more team-friendly, plus he has extensive experience playing for one of the best teams in the league over the last five years.
There is also the possibility that they could use him to get Myles Turner off the Bucks' hands, but it's only been rumored that Turner is available, with nothing set in stone. Plus, it would take more than Hauser, but a simple Nikola Vucevic sign-and-trade could do the trick.
Regardless of how the deal is executed, Hauser's inclusion in any deal for Antetokounmpo could be the key for Boston pulling this off.
Perhaps that's why there's a hold-up?
This is just mere speculation but Boston putting Brown on the table gives them an insurmountable edge over Miami unless Bam Adebayo is on the table, and from the looks of things, he isn't. That's why it's possible that what's holding up this deal is that the Bucks want the Celtics to take some of their other guys off their hands on top of Antetokounmpo.
Milwaukee has every right to see this through until they are out of time. It would make sense if the Bucks are holding out hope that Brad Stevens will cave and take back their surplus contracts in a trade for Antetokounmpo.
It's not something he's ever done before in a trade. He has acquired contracts that he would later got rid of, like Georges Niang and Anfernee Simons, but has never acquired excess contracts to get the player he wants.
If he pulls the trigger on something like this, it's because he believes Antetokounmpo is worth the trouble. However, if the Bucks are insisting on this caveat, that might be why nothing has been agreed to.
