According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Jaylen Brown has not requested a trade. When Mike Zarren got asked about that subject after Round 2 of this year's NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics' vice president of basketball operations and team counsel deferred to Brad Stevens' comments about the situation the day before.
Brad Stevens, when asked if Jaylen Brown will be on the #Celtics next season:

"Jaylen Brown's a big part of us," said Stevens shortly after the Celtics selected Chris Cenac Jr. near the end of the first round. "I'm never going to predict the future, but like every indication, everything that I think about is with -- over the past few years, has been building around those guys, right? And so, obviously, you never know, but at the same time, I think the one thing I want to make very clear is how valued he's always been. He's been amazing. He's been an amazing teammate, [a] great person to be around."
If that's accurate, it could be a sign that at least one side of this partnership is willing to move forward together. Of course, it could also be true now, only to see Brown, at a later date, inform the organization that he would like a fresh start elsewhere.
It's also true that such a demand from the former NBA Finals MVP could go unfulfilled. Brown's under contract for three more years. This is not a situation like Giannis Antetokounmpo's, where the 10-time All-Star could opt out of his contract next offseason. That possibility forced the Milwaukee Bucks' hand, leading to a trade that will send him to the Miami Heat.
If Boston's five-time All-Star stays put, then, on Jul. 26, he becomes eligible to sign an extension with the franchise that drafted him a decade ago. Doing so would tack two years and $139 million onto the $183 million he has remaining on his deal.
What rival execs are saying about Jaylen Brown's Celtics future
With Antetokounmpo taking his talents to South Beach, Siegel conveyed that rival front-office personnel are downplaying the chances of the Marietta, Georgia, native being traded this offseason. It's worth noting that ESPN's Brian Windhorst has a different vantage point.

So, perhaps this was strictly about the pursuit of a star whom the organization believed, despite his injury concerns, was worth gambling on because he elevated their championship chances.
Even if one believes Kawhi Leonard is better than Antetokounmpo, the seven-time All-NBA selection is about to turn 35. A few months into the 2026-27 campaign, he'll be three years older than the Heat's new forward, who turns 32 in December.
Leonard can become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Jake Fischer reports that, outside of the Clippers, he'd only sign an extension with the San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors. Even if he were willing to do so with Boston, trading Brown for Antetokounmpo made more sense than parting with him for a player in his mid-30s.
It highlights how, even with concerns about Antetokounmpo's durability, he figures to have been the best singular talent the Celtics could have pursued if they were to break up their franchise cornerstones. Trading Brown for another potential option now would seemingly be motivated by a different appeal.
Mending fences with Jaylen Brown
Maybe that's not necessary. Perhaps the relationship is in a good place, or at least one of understanding. After all, according to Siegel, the two-time All-NBA Second Team selection has not requested a trade.
After Round 1 of the draft on Tuesday, Stevens shared, "Spent a lot of time just the two of us, sitting down together, and then have been like, like every offseason, in regular touch with his agent all the way through the last couple of days,"Â stated the Celtics' president of basketball operations. "With all the rumor mill and all that stuff, and [his] name being splashed all over the place, that's not easy, but we certainly wanted to be as proactive and upfront with that as possible, and I thought we had really good, candid conversations."
No matter how this ends, that communication is paramount. And if the intent becomes to move forward together, giving him that extension should be a foregone conclusion.
But if Brown is traded, when will that be?
Yours truly is staying close to his phone. It feels like one could look down at their phone at any moment and see there's a notification about a deal. That doesn't mean it will happen, but even after the draft came and went, that's how this author is operating.
According to Siegel, however, a resolution is not expected before the start of free agency on Jun. 30. In fact, he says this could carry into NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, which begins on Jul. 9.
A trade could be more imminent than that, but just as the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes required patience, it's best to employ that while waiting for a resolution between the Celtics and Brown.
