There's been so much discussion about what the Boston Celtics would have to do to pull off a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Nothing is set in stone, but we also have to consider the ramifications that would come with a Giannis trade. The good ramifications, mind you.
Antetokounmpo is still one of the NBA's best players, which has been to Milwaukee's benefit for more reasons than just how good he is. Players want to come play with him, and have been willing to do so on discounts.
Brook Lopez, Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, Gary Trent Jr. are all good examples of quality players who came to Milwaukee on discount deals in part because they believed Giannis would boost their value. It hasn't always worked out, but the point is, the Greek Freak is a draw.
More than that, Milwaukee has also been a draw for big free agents in the Antetokounmpo, though it must be prefaced with how badly that has backfired on them. Old friend Greg Monroe and Myles Turner were among the more notable free agents who chose the Bucks in part because it would give them the chance to join forces with Giannis.
The Celtics have actually been pretty good about finding diamond in the rough free agents since Brad Stevens took over the front office, but on name recognition alone, Giannis would help them a lot in that regard.
This could come in handy if multiple Celtics are traded
The ongoing belief is that the Celtics trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo would require Jaylen Brown, but it wouldn't be surprising if the Bucks make it clear that it will take more than that, meaning more players will have to be involved in the deal.
If that happens, more players like Sam Hauser or Payton Pritchard might be involved - fingers crossed that it won't - which opens up some roster spots should it come to that. Luckily, this is where Antetokounmpo's name would become part of the equation.
Also, if the Celtics can get him while staying under the cap (Sidenote: not a cap expert here), they still gives them the flexibility to utilize the Ant Simons TPE. It's very possible they may not use the whole thing or split it up between two players, but good players want to play with Antetokounmpo.
Good players have also wanted to play with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, but Antetokounmpo and Tatum? They'd be sold, especially if they were given a big role on the team. Of course, we shouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves, but if Antetokounmpo becomes a Celtic, so many options open up.
