Luke Doncic shares blunt admission about Boston Celtics ahead of NBA Finals
Luka Doncic shared with the media his feelings before Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, beginning on June 6th. He references the fact that the Celtics are at the top of the NBA.
"I mean, they're the best team in the NBA," Doncic said in his press conference on May 30 after eliminating the Minnesota Timberwolves from the Western Conference Finals (h/t Yahoo Sports).
Props to Doncic for confidently acknowledging that the Celtics are the best team in the NBA, even if the numbers speak for themselves. It's always nice to see other big-name players recognize that it's not going to be as easy 100% of the time.
Doncic is now in his sixth season and has made his first NBA Finals appearance. Just like Celtics star Jayson Tatum, he's searching for his first Larry O'Brien trophy as well.
What else did Luka Doncic tell the media ahead of Game 1 against the Boston Celtics?
The Celtics held the best record in the NBA, hence their No. 1 seed in the playoffs and Doncic considered that as he spoke to the reporters.
The 25-year-old says that he and the Mavs are "gonna have to play really hard" to take down Joe Mazzulla's squad. But that's obvious as they had to do the same thing after against the Clippers, Thunder, and Timberwolves.
"They had by far the best record and they have some incredible weapons on offense and defense. We're gonna have to play really hard and amazing basketball to beat them."
Boston has all of the pieces to combat the Mavericks, but it's still in question whether or not Kristaps Porzinigis returns. It'll be key for the Celtics to have him, as he'd be the best bet to stop Dallas' lob threat in the paint with Derrick Lively and Daniel Gafford rolling off screens.
This series has so much in store and it's awesome for basketball fans all around.
