Let’s paint a beautiful picture. Jayson Tatum has been called out by Jaylen Brown to help him in the dunk contest on All-Star Saturday night. Tatum and Brown do a legendary dunk that leads to Brown winning the contest. Boom, the dunk contest is back and Cs fans have a moment to remember.

Ultimately, the Jays have an opportunity to not only join a list of legendary teammates to work together in the dunk contest but also to help revive the event. Are they capable of doing it?

The dunk contest has lost its special quality over the years as star players simply don’t participate in the event. It’s sad because the dunk contest used to feature great players/dunkers like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Vince Carter. This is why I give Brown props for doing the event because he is trying to change the narrative around star players competing. It’s also a smart move by Brown to allow himself to step out of Tatum’s shadow.

Jayson Tatum assisting Jaylen Brown in Slam Dunk Contest a win for Celtics fans

The news that Tatum will most likely assist Brown on a dunk is awesome, considering the history of teammates helping each other. A few famous ones that come to mind for me are Allen Iverson throwing it off the back of the backboard to Andre Iguodala, Steve Nash heading the ball to Amar’e Stoudemire, and Jameer Nelson throwing it to Dwight Howard for the Superman dunk. Even Tracy McGrady dropping the ball for a huge through-the-legs dunk from teammate Vince Carter is iconic.

Tatum and Brown have a chance to join this list, etching themselves in the history of the contest. I think it would be great for the event and the league if Tatum and Brown put on a show. It will be interesting to see how they do, but I do expect them to bring the house down.
