'Hard to envision' Boston Celtics and near-star glue-guy not prolonging marriage

Derrick White is arguably the Celtics' most impactful player from this past postseason. It's now officially the offseason and big decisions are looming ... the future is at stake.

Derrick White sacrificed everything and by that, we're talking about a chipped tooth after diving for a loose ball during Game 5 of the NBA Finals. But it's the offseason and big decisions are looming -- the future of this potential dynasty is at stake.

It's now Brad Stevens and the front office's turn to do the hard work, making agreements that'll give the organization a shot at repeating as NBA champions. Arguably, the most important contract assignment is extending White's contract.

FanSided's Lior Lampert dove deeper into the situation, as he mentioned it'd be "hard" for White and Boston to not come to the same conclusion.

“Eligible for a four-year, $126 million extension, the Celtics hope to strike a deal with White this summer," Lampert prefaced before saying, "He is entering the final year of his current pact, though he has become an indispensable asset for Boston. So, it is hard to envision the two sides not finding common ground to prolong their marriage.”

That kind of money is hard to pass up for White, especially after everything that came to be this postseason. He was able to hoist up his first Larry O'Brien Trophy, which is a moment not everyone gets to feel in their NBA careers, and is young enough (30 at the start of the 2024-25 season) to do it several more times in his prime.

Derrick 'Chipped' White becomes Boston Celtics folk hero for postgame smile

The love for Boston flows throughout White, as he stated during the championship celebration following Game 5 that he would lose all of his teeth for a championship.

"I'd lose all my teeth for a championship," White said while the Celtics were being awarded the Larry O'Brien Trophy (h/t Sports Illustrated).

What could be better than signing an extension with a team that returns the same love back?

It's not rocket science. White and the Celtics belong to each other — they fit like a glove.

Make the move, No. 9. You too Brad Stevens.
