For the sixth and final time this summer, the Boston Celtics have resigned a key player from their Banner 18 squad. The Celtics will bring back Sam Hauser on a four-year contract extension, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. His deal is worth $45 million, good for $11.25 million a year.

Hauser went undrafted three years ago before signing a two-way contract with the Celtics ahead of the 2021-22 season. The following summer, the sharpshooting forward resigned on a three-year, $6 million deal.

Since joining the Celtics, Hauser has blossomed into one of the most lethal 3-point shooters in the NBA. A career 42.2% shooter from deep, Hauser played his best basketball of the 2024 playoffs in the NBA Finals. He averaged 8.2 points on 47.8% shooting from three, going 11/23 from downtown across five games.

Hauser earned every penny of his new contract in the Finals. He became a true 3-and-D weapon for Boston, shooting the lights out and playing some great isolation defense on Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Sam Hauser impacts the game beyond his 3-point shot

Hauser has always possessed one of the purest jumpers on the planet. Across his four-year college career, he shot 43.9% from beyond the arc. In his sophomore year, he nailed a remarkable 48.7% of his 3-pointers.

However, Hauser has earned a long-term home with the NBA champions by expanding his game and his ability to impact winning beyond his three ball. Leading up to the Finals, Hauser struggled with his shot in two consecutive series. He shot a shocking 1/14 (7.1%) from deep in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Despite his mini shooting slump, Hauser righted the ship in Game 1 of the Finals. He later talked to Celtics reporter Bobby Krivitsky about how he was able to play through his shooting woes and contribute in other ways.

"I mean, that’s what being a basketball player is. You’re not gonna make every shot, you’re gonna go through slumps. You’re gonna go through highs too. It’s a matter of how can you stay on the floor and impact and do other things well, and I think I’ve done a good job of that."

Celtics fans will love to see Hauser back in green for the long haul. The 26-year-old sharpshooter has come a long way since his time with the Maine Celtics in the G League.

The Boston Celtics are bringing the whole gang back next season

When Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck said the organization would be “bringing the whole team back next year,” he wasn’t kidding.

Since Boston won its record-breaking 18th championship on June 17, the Celtics have resigned Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, Neemias Queta, Xavier Tillman, Luke Kornet, and now Hauser. The C’s also resigned JD Davison and Drew Peterson to two-way deals.

With an entire offseason to build upon the chemistry they already formed in their first season together, the Celtics will enter the 2024-25 campaign as the favorites to defend their title. The champs are fully running it back, and that is scary news for the rest of the NBA.

The Hauser deal likely marks Boston’s final major move of the offseason. Celtics fans can now celebrate what was an incredible summer for general manager Brad Stevens and his front office.

Grousbeck said it best after the Celtics won it all: “Look out, world.”
