Ex-Boston Celtics big: 'Giannis is losing sleep' watching Jrue Holiday in NBA Finals
The NBA Finals have now passed two games, and the Boston Celtics hold a 2-0 series lead. A lot of the credit goes out to last summer's offseason addition of former Milwaukee Buck, Jrue Holiday. A player who normally hid in the shadows of star Giannis Antetokounmpo while the two were teammates.
Kendrick Perkins, a popular former C's player, commented about how Giannis is "losing sleep" while witnessing Holiday's success.
“Giannis and the Milwaukee Bucks, they’re losing sleep right now,” former Celtics center and ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins said on ESPN's “Get Up” on June 10 (h/t NESN). “They gave up on Jrue Holiday. They felt like they got to get better and all of a sudden he’s with the Celtics making it happen.”
The decision to trade away Jrue Holiday by the Bucks front office may be one that haunts them forever.
Yes, in the end, they earned Damian Lillard after their wheeling and dealing, but that has only resulted in a first-round exit this postseason.
This is not to throw shade at Lillard; he's an incredible player, but that's what has happened so far.
What other comments did Kendrick Perkins have about Jrue Holiday and the Boston Celtics?
Perkins went in-depth about how Holiday has "outplayed" Dallas' Kyrie Irving during both Games 1 & 2.
That's huge respect from "Perk."
“Here’s the thing: Jrue Holiday has really outplayed Kyrie in Game 1 and Game 2,” Perkins said. “… (Game 2) was a prime example of what he brings to the table when you talk about the paint points. We’re talking about a Celtics team that lives and dies by the three, but Jrue Holiday set the tone by going to the paint. … Jrue Holiday, he got Kyrie Irving in a body bag right now.”
The former Buck has shown that he's more than just an elite defensive presence. He can finish at the rim like the best of them.
He's a leader. Holiday is proving that he deserves more credit, even though he's already got an NBA championship under his belt.
Regardless of Holiday's outstanding performances, the Celtics still need to win two more games in order to say "mission accomplished."
