1. Payton Pritchard

Pritchard’s four-year $30 million contract kicks in this offseason, and the 6’1 guard is the most likely trade candidate. He wanted the Celtics to trade him (subscription required) in 2023 when his role diminished. Boston opened up minutes by consolidating their roster, but Pritchard averaged just 12.2 minutes per game over their final seven playoff contests. In the deciding game, Pritchard made a halfcourt buzzer-beater and played in garbage time for his 85 seconds of action.

His $6.6 million salary is enough to get something in return. Does Boston find a more useful option? Having another ball-handler, floor spacer, and shot-creator is a luxury. Pritchard struggles on defense and may not be long for the Celtics, despite being under contract until 2028.

Much likely depends on Pritchard. They are fine keeping him as their backup point guard, but the 26-year-old must be content with his role and place on the team. The Celtics are focused on winning another championship and do not want the distraction of a disgruntled player.

The Boston Celtics will add pieces this summer in hopes of repeating as champions for the first time since the Warriors in 2018. Winning one is difficult, but the repeat is even tougher. The Celtics are built to last, but there will be roadblocks. Buckle up for an intriguing summer and the shot at putting banner 19 in the rafters.
