2. Derrick White
The Celtics do not want to lose White. All the franchise has done since acquiring him was win a championship, make two NBA Finals, and three conference finals in three years. White is an elite defender and one of the best role players in the league. He is never afraid to do the dirty work to help his team win.
White took on a larger offensive role and helped produce a historic season. They went 80-21, including just three postseason losses. Boston never played more than five games in a series and was arguably the best team from wire-to-wire. White becoming an elite shooter and showcasing his playmaking took their offense to a new level and made the Celtics nearly unbeatable.
Boston wants to work out an extension. White has just one season remaining on his deal and is searching for a significant raise from his $20 million salary. The Celtics are not shy about paying their top-end talent, but spending concerns are real.
Can they figure out a number that suits both parties? If not, the Celtics should explore trading Derrick White this offseason. It would allow Boston to maximize their return but do not consider this likely. If the franchise gets its way, Derrick White will continue wearing green for years.
