For years, the Boston Celtics were inches away from glory. The last time they won a championship was 2008, and since then, they’ve made multiple NBA Finals appearances and plenty of conference finals as well. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and this current group were experts in getting close but falling short. That was until the 2023-24 season.

Led by Tatum and Brown, the Celtics won their first championship in 16 years. It was an incredible moment, and the two stars got to bask in the glory that they worked so hard to earn.

But they aren’t done yet.

Jayson Tatum says he's keeping a finger open for another Celtics championship ring

In Oshae Brissett’s latest vlog (The Brissy Files), Tatum was asked which finger he chose to get his championship ring fitted for. He was originally going to go for his pinky but ultimately decided to get it on his ring finger, saving his pinky for “the next one.” (H/t Daniel Donabedian of Clutch Points)

“I was going pinky, but I went index. I’m gonna save the pinky for the next one,” Tatum said with a smile.

Tatum, Brissett, and photographer Brad Hampton were talking about rings, as all three will be receiving the jewelry for their contributions to the organization last season.

The Celtics star has been working his entire career to bring the guys in green to a title. From his rookie season, he’s been on the precipice of greatness, but it took him until this past season to realize his goal.

This past year, Tatum appeared in 74 games for the Celtics, playing 35.7 minutes per contest. He averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists while shooting 47.1% from the field and 37.6% from behind the three-point line.

Now, Tatum has been set up perfectly to go for a back-to-back. Brad Stevens brought back almost every single player from last year’s roster. Everyone will be back outside of Brissett and Svi Mykhailiuk.

And more importantly, Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and the rest of the team’s top eight players are all under contract for multiple seasons moving forward.

He’s ready to get a ring on his index, and his pinky will be eagerly awaiting another.
