5 Celtics whose future is up in the air after winning a title
By Tyler Watts
3. Oshae Brissett
The Celtics signed Brissett to a two-year contract in the 2023 offseason. He has a player option for $2.4 million for next season. Does the 6’7 wing decide to go elsewhere after averaging just 11.5 minutes per contest and appearing in 55? He was an end-of-the-bench option in the playoffs after being in the Pacers rotation for two straight years.
If Brissett opts out, expect the Celtics to move on. They have zero interest in paying him more, especially after the franchise struggled to find him minutes in 2024. Boston won the championship and will be favored heading into next season. Is that enough to convince Brissett to stay in Beantown?
The 26-year-old holds the power. He likely struggles to earn more but could improve his stock long-term by playing and producing more. It is far from a given, especially if Brissett plans to stick to contenders. He is in his prime and wants to win. His easiest path to doing so remains as a lesser option on an elite squad.
2024 was his first time qualifying for the playoffs. Does Brissett prioritize going back to Boston, searching for the most money, or landing guaranteed playing time? First, he must decide on his player option, and it feels 50-50 at this stage.
