3. Jae’Sean Tate
The Rockets have a $7.0 million team option on Tate’s contract for next season. The 6’4 forward's minutes and production are down for the fourth straight year. It may be time for Houston to move on, but the 28-year-old is still showing promise as a role player.
His numbers may not jump off the screen. They do not need to as Tate can defend multiple positions and brings energy to the floor. He has shown some ball-handling and playmaking ability too. The 6’4 forward is a solid role player capable of helping a contender.
The role isn’t there in Houston. It is time to move on, and he could be the wing the Celtics have been searching for behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. There would be no pressure for Tate to score. He can defend hard, hustle, and keep the ball moving. It would be an outstanding fit if the Rockets decline their option.
The Boston Celtics have their top six. They are searching for role players, especially ones who are comfortable taking a backseat. The Celtics have all the top-end talent they can handle. The franchise needs depth, and it could mean bringing back a proven playoff winner to come off their bench.
