When the Boston Celtics traded for Derrick White midway through the 2022 season, most fans hoped he could be an excellent sixth man or rotation piece. Flash forward, two seasons later, and White is arguably the Celtics' fourth option offensively and is on the verge of making an All-Star team. With that in mind, it's not crazy to wonder how great that trade was for the Celtics.

Ultimately, the trade is the most underrated great trade in the NBA in the last decade.

The first thing that makes the trade the most underrated is the Cs gave up nothing to get him. The Celtics package was Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford, and two first-round picks. The two players the Celtics gave up are not stellar players, and the picks are useless, considering the Celtics are going to be contenders for the next five years. The fact that the Celtics were able to get White for virtually nothing makes the move underrated.

Derrick White has exceeded expectations on the Boston Celtics

Another key factor is that White has exceeded expectations with the Celtics. White has been everything the Celtics could have hoped for as he contributed to an NBA Finals run in 2022, and he has improved his game every season. This season, White is playing the best basketball of his career, averaging a career-high in points (16.5), and rebounds (4.0), and is shooting the best splits of his career.

The level of play that White has reached has put him in conversation for an All-Star nod, which is absurd considering the player he was when the Cs traded for him. White's impact on the Celtics can not be stated enough, making this the most underrated trade of the last decade.

The only thing left for White and the Celtics to do is capture Banner 18.
