1. Al Horford

The Celtics' depth becomes a greater worry when looking at their big men. Kristaps Porzingis is currently sidelined and has played more than 58 games just once since 2018. Can they count on the Unicorn to stay healthy throughout their playoff run? Al Horford is the team’s sixth man when healthy, but the 37-year-old is clearly on the decline. Can he handle 30-plus every night in the postseason if necessary?

Horford’s minutes and production are down to begin the season, but that is intentional. The Celtics want to save his legs for when the games matter most. Horford will play more with KP out and is still a key cog in Boston.

Al Horford makes $10.0 million this season and is under contract at $9.5 million for the 2024-25 campaign. They have four players who make $30-plus million, and Derrick White earns $18.3 million. Pritchard’s $4.0 million is the next highest on the team after Horford. They would have to trade one of their top six to bring back anyone making more than the mid-level exception, and Horford’s age puts him firmly on the chopping block.

Even the veteran big man’s deal is not enough to acquire another star. The Boston Celtics are locked in with their top five, so Horford would be the man moved if they need another key piece for their postseason run.

Will the Boston Celtics make a trade for depth, or do they hope to find that seventh man on the buyout market? They are a title contender and certainly a team to watch, so stay tuned.
