The Boston Celtics are in an intriguing spot. Fresh off a championship, the team is looking to continue their quest to win now, yet simultaneously plan for the future. So, in the 2024 NBA Draft, they selected players who could potentially fit into both plans: Baylor Scheierman and Anton Watson.

Both played well at Summer League, and now, Watson is on a two-way contract, while Scheierman inked a four-year, standard rookie deal that comes with being a first-round pick. The Creighton product is an all-around player, but his impressive three-point shooting, in particular, was highlighted as he was going through the draft process.

Now, the Celtics are hoping to capitalize on that skill.

Baylor Scheierman has been working with Sam Hauser on his three-point shot

After practice on Thursday, Scheierman revealed that he has been working closely with Sam Hauser and assistant coach Craig Luschenat over the summer to improve his three-ball.

“Working on my shot,” Scheierman said. “Continuing to tune up things. Trying to get it off quicker. Been working with Craig [Luschenat] a lot and Sam Hauser a lot, and they've been giving me a lot of great tips and tricks to try to do that in a game.”

In his final season at Creighton, Scheierman shot 38.1% from deep on 8.3 three-point attempts per game. As for Hauser, he clocked in at 42.5% on 5.9 threes per game. He ranked 11th in the NBA amongst qualified shooters.

“Obviously, he's one of the best shooters in the league and was a key part on the championship team last year,” Scheierman said. “Just working out with him, just seeing how he, not only on the court, but just his routine in general. How he prepares for workouts, [what] he does after his workouts, and then in workouts, just sharing tips about different tricks that help you get your shot off quicker.”

Hauser will have a huge role on this year’s Celtics team, too, after signing a four-year extension to remain in Boston this offseason.

The two shooters came together by means of a mutual interest. Scheierman didn’t have to reach out to Hauser, nor vice versa. At one point, they were simply in the same workout group, and things have rolled on from there.

“A little bit of both. When I first got back from Summer League and we started working out together, me and him, we just happened to be in the same group,” Scheierman said. “We're both from the Midwest. He's from Wisconsin. I'm from Nebraska. So, we kind of have that connection. He's just been there for me whenever I have a question.”
