Perfection is the enemy of improvement; in reality, it’s impossible. The Boston Celtics won an NBA Championship just a few months ago, but they can’t rest on their laurels now. Just because Banner 18 will rise to the rafters in October doesn’t mean they won’t be eyeing Banner 19 as it flies.

Every player on the roster, from Jayson Tatum to Drew Peterson, should be focused on improving. There’s always room to get better, so here’s one skill each guy should hope to get better at and why it would help their place on the Celtics (and in the league).

1. Drew Peterson - Defense

At the G League level, Drew Peterson was an all-around offensive player. His shooting was solid, his ball-handling was heavily utilized, and his playmaking was underrated. But defensively, there’s still room for Peterson to grow.

The 6-foot-9 wing is still very skinny and needs to put on even more weight if he hopes to succeed at the NBA level. NBA wings will bowl through him if he doesn’t.

2. JD Davison - Three-point shooting

During his time with the Maine Celtics, JD Davison has proven to be an elite playmaker. He’s one of the best passers in the G League and is an explosive athlete, too. But his three-point shot just isn’t there.

If he wants to play in the NBA, especially for the Celtics, Davison will have to prove to be an adept shooter from beyond the arc. He’s shown some progress, but it’s still not quite there yet, and now that he’s on his third and final two-way, it’s now or never.
