3 Retired Celtics who could play in the Big3 league
The Big3 basketball league was founded by Ice Cube and it has been running for seven summers now. The slower pace half-court three-on-three format is very suitable for older players to jump in and look solid in the eight to 10 game season they play.
There are many former Boston Celtics who can still go on the basketball court. Would joining the Big 3 league be a wise path for these three players?
Rajon Rondo
Rajon Rondo suited up for the Boston Celtics for the first eight seasons of his career. His peak season was the 2012-13 campaign where he averaged 13.7 points, 11.1 assists, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.8 steals on 48% shooting from the field. The 2012 playoffs were his best playoff stint with the Cs as he averaged 17.3 points, 11.9 assists, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.4 steals on 47% overall, and 70% from the foul line across 19 games.
The former two-time NBA champion and four-time All-Star is now 38 years old. His last stint in the league was in 2022 playing for the Cleveland Cavs and posting averages of 6.2 points, 4.9 assists, and 2.8 rebounds on 42% shooting overall, and 40% from three.
Rondo could be the new face of this league with his ability to be a player-coach and orchestrate an offense like a beautiful symphony -- and he's one of the few players capable of flirting with or getting a triple-double in a game to 50 points.
It is time for Ice Cube to call the former NBA superstar and give him an offer he cannot refuse. Rondo did retire from the NBA in 2024, but at 38 he's still young enough for the Big3.
