Sometimes Celtics fans can get a reputation for being a little too optimistic about the team and trusting too much in the organization. Generally, the faith has been rewarded, and more often than not, they do the right thing and operate like one of the premier franchises in all of sports. As a fan, sometimes you have to wonder if you are just drinking the Kool-Aid, but then you’ll get a reminder of why you trust this team.
Paul George delivered one of those reminders on Monday in his media day appearance when he explained how happy he is to be a Celtic.
“I wish I was here a lot sooner. Not to discredit anywhere I've been, but since I've been here, it's just been nothing but happiness… I'm happy to be in green.”
He can qualify the comment all he wants, but he’s clearly discrediting his former teams to some extent. And this isn’t some young pup; this is a 16-year veteran who has played for four different teams before arriving in Boston this summer at age 36.

This is nothing new either. Even as far back as Kevin Garnett, we heard him lament that he wished he had arrived to the franchise earlier, and now George is echoing that sentiment before even playing a game.
George’s fit on the team is plenty of reason for excitement, but his optimism and the general vibes around the roster this year are immaculate heading into training camp. Obviously, it was a tumultuous and controversial offseason, but now that the smoke has cleared, it really feels like there is great connectivity with this group, the pieces fit together extremely well, and everyone is on the same page.

It’s clear that this group of players wants to win and prove the doubters wrong. They all feel comfortable in their roles and confident in the front office, coaching staff, and players around them. Say what you want about PG, but the guy knows the NBA well, and for him to already be this emphatically excited about this Celtics team is a great sign.
They are still going to have a lot to prove on the court, but hearing this level of enthusiasm from the future Hall of Famer upon entering the building should be music to the ears of every Celtics fan. George is hungry and motivated to win his first title, and he knows he is running out of time.
He proved in the playoffs last season that he can still bring it at a high level. Hearing how amped up he is for the team and this season has me ready to run through a wall, and I can’t wait to see what it looks like when the season finally starts.
