Because of all the Jaylen Brown trade hoopla that will take a while to die down, it's been easy to forget that the Boston Celtics just added Mitchell Robinson. This is a big deal not just because they took him from the New York Knicks, but because Boston just added a certified Celtics killer, a fact that Robinson himself let the fans know about.
With the Robinson addition now official, the Celtics have recently been posting about him on their official Instagram page. Under their latest post on Robinson, one fan(?) wrote, "He better be great otherwise he’ll (be remembered) for missing 2 free throws against us," to which Robinson replied with, "that’s cool still sent that ass home remember that."

That is in reference to when he and the Knicks sent the Celtics packing in the 2025 Eastern Conference Semifinals. While it's not false that Robinson's Achilles' heel is his free throw shooting, his rebounding prowess truly made the difference in that series' final outcome.
No matter who the Celtics had out there, Robinson tore them up on the boards, giving the Knicks so many extra possessions. That came in very handy when the Knicks were challenged with coming back from the large deficits the Celtics had on them.
It's safe to say New York would not have won that series against Boston without Robinson, and now, he's a Celtic.
Robinson can be that same X-Factor in Boston
Robinson's efforts have been incredibly useful for the Knicks over the last two years. Not only is he a Celtics killer, but he played an undeniable role in their title run this past season. There's a reason why both the Knicks players and fans are devastated that he left.
Not only did he gobble up rebounds, but he got perhaps the biggest one of both his career and of Knicks history that more or less sealed their title.
Boston's frontcourt exceeded expectations last season, but it was clear how low their ceiling was despite their floor being that high. By himself, Robinson changes that. He's a presence on both sides of the floor because of what he can do as a rebounder on top of being a mobile defender and a rim protector.
The Celtics have had some excellent big men over the years, but not one quite like Robinson. He's not a floor-spacer and his free throw shooting is a problem, but the Knicks' championship this past season it's a problem that can be mitigated.
The positives strongly outweigh the negatives, and Robinson is sure to prove that right away once he steps on the floor as a Celtic.
