Kyrie Irving and Boston Celtics fans have a jaded relationship -- to say the very least. Irving’s brief, two-year stint with the Cs ended when the All-Star guard joined the Brooklyn Nets as a free agent in 2019.
Even the biggest Kyrie haters in the fanbase would have to watch the latest viral clip of Irving and have a laugh. On Wednesday, the Dallas Mavericks posted a video of the former No. 1 overall pick and some of his teammates being visited by a robot.
Yes, a robot.
Kyrie put this robot in its place
The tiny metal machine was showing off some fighting moves to the Mavs players when Irving approached it. As Kyrie walked towards the robot, you could tell that it became intimidated (kind of scary, if we’re being honest), as it took some small steps backward in retreat.
Then, Kyrie emphatically shoved the bot backwards, causing it to stumble before falling flat on its back and lying still on the concrete.
Nah why did Kyrie take out the robot like that LMAOO 😭 pic.twitter.com/QhB4jFopLi

Irving’s “my bad, I thought I could push him a little harder,” was just the cherry on top of this stroke of comedic genius by the Mavs’ social team.
The Celtics/Kyrie beef has cooled off quite a bit since its peak
I’m just happy that this came out when it did, rather than years earlier, when I would still feel obligated to despise everything Kyrie did.
Nowadays, the beef between Irving and Boston has cooled down quite a bit. At its peak, though -- it was vicious.
Losing a player of Irving’s caliber always stings, but when he leaves nine months after saying he planned to stay, it’s going to add more salt to the wound. Not to mention that he went out sad with a lackluster playoff performance against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Then, Irving’s Nets met the Celtics in the postseason in both 2021 and 2022. The teams split the series with Boston getting the last laugh in a 4-0 sweep. Kyrie’s beef with Celtics fans hit its boiling point in these matchups.
Moments like Irving stomping on the Celtics’ logo, a fan throwing a water bottle at him, and then the guard going back and forth with the crowd and flipping them the bird all stand out.
In simpler terms, it was pure cinema.
The climax didn’t come until the 2024 NBA Finals, when Irving and the Celtics met for one final, meaningful playoff matchup. Boston was heavily favored in the series and played like it, ultimately claiming their 18th NBA title in just five games. The closure that accompanied winning the championship pretty much put all of the vitriol to rest.
Now we can all sit back and enjoy Kyrie sending that robot to the shadow realm.
