Big Perk is scrambling this year, trying to atone for past sins and repair his fractured relationship with the Celtics. He has gotten too big for his own britches in recent years, trying to break into the hot take game and tearing down his old team in the process with one misguided personal jab after another.
So, Perkins can pander to Celtics fans as much as he wants; it won’t matter. He burnt that bridge, and he can’t come crawling back now. He can try to claim Boston all he wants, but Boston doesn’t claim him, and no amount of indulging us will change that.
His latest attempt was on ESPN’s Get Up on Monday morning, when he called out LeBron James for being “wrong” when he praised the Celtics by claiming that nobody saw this coming. Of course, Perkins obnoxiously tried to push back on that harmless and generally accurate comment, saying he believed in the Cs all along, claiming they would make the playoffs before the season.
Is this true? Maybe. Who cares? It’s pedantic, really. This, along with Perk’s shameless push for Jaylen Brown to win MVP, just comes off as pathetic. Stop trying to preach to Celtics fans who are too smart for this; it’s embarrassing.
Celtics fans are sick and tired of Perkins
Perkins was once beloved in Boston, and maybe he thought that would last forever, no matter what happened, but he was dead wrong. Over recent years, he has shown his true colors, that he will sell his soul for attention with one joke of a “take” after another.
He has repeatedly changed his opinions like the winds blow and hasn’t held back from crossing the line on multiple occasions. Speaking his mind on basketball is one thing, but his personal attacks on the Jays and Joe Mazzulla went way too far, and regardless of what anyone may say publicly, there’s no chance those comments will be forgotten.
Will some welcome Perkins back to Boston publicly? Perhaps. So far, they have not, as Wyc Grousbeck confirmed that Perk was NOT welcome at the team's 2024 championship parade. But if someday they do, that kind of discipline from the organization is a part of what has made it great. The fans, on the other hand, are not so forgiving, and we want nothing to do with Perk.
Hopefully, he enjoys his fans in Oklahoma City, Cleveland, New Orleans, and all the clout from running his mouth on ESPN, but we’ve all seen his true colors, and I’m sure he’ll change his tone and go back to criticizing the Celtics as soon as it’s good for business again.
So, he can try to apologize, atone, and make amends all he wants. He can laugh and chum it up on national TV, acting like he’s good money around these parts, but real fans know the truth, and they always will.
