The Boston Celtics lost in their final matchup of the Las Vegas Summer League on Saturday, falling to the Orlando Magic 103-97.
Here's what stood out:
John Tonje should be back next season
Discussions of who should land Boston’s final pair of two-way roster spots have dominated discourse throughout the back half of Summer League. John Tonje, Milos Uzan, and Celtics second-round pick Dillon Mitchell all seem to be in the race for the remaining slots.
There’s a world where Boston can sign Mitchell to a standard roster spot on a $1.3 million contract to remain below the luxury tax, ever so slightly.
Regardless if they take that route or ink the St. John’s product to a two-way, Tonje should earn his onto next season’s roster.
He’s simply been too good and too consistent to let walk away.
Leading up to Boston’s meeting with Orlando, Tonje averaged 15.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 47.6% from the field and 46.2% from deep.
He continued to impress in the finale, leading the charge for Boston even with Hugo Gonzalez, Chris Cenac Jr, and Mitchell all sitting out. Tonje posted 14 points on a crisp 6-9 shooting.
Milos Uzan should also stick around
Much like Tonje, Milos Uzan has put together a strong sampling of his skills at Summer League. The former Houston guard has clearly made the Celtics better every time he’s been on the floor thanks to his ability to facilitate and run an offense.
As you get deeper into Boston’s bench, there isn’t exactly a surplus of ballhandlers. It’d make sense to try and retain Uzan and develop him a bit, with hopes that he could grow into a rotation player someday.
Nick Pringle is a perpetual highlight threat
Celtics Summer League center Nick Pringle was allowed to roam free on Saturday, after spending the majority of the previous four games glued to Boston’s bench. The Arkansas product wasted no time captivating Celtics fans with his otherworldly athleticism.
Late in the first quarter, Pringle crashed on a Caleb Grill three-point attempt, skied through the lane, reached far to his left for the rebound, and slammed home a loud putback slam.

Having gotten to watch the Celtics mess around after practice a few times in Las Vegas last week, Pringle’s super slam didn’t come as a surprise. Some of the dunk-contest type of dunks he was throwing down were insane to watch.
Who knows whether or not he’ll remain with the organization, but it’d be cool to see him earn a spot with Boston’s G-League affiliate up in Maine.
Anytime he’s on the court, there’s a real chance he’ll do something that’ll make your jaw drop.
