The most consistent factor in the Celtics’ success this season has been the outstanding two-way play of Jaylen Brown night to night. He has ascended to an unquestioned superstar, likely headed for the first first-team All-NBA selection of his career as he has spearheaded Boston’s improbable run to a 50+ win season.
A big part of that success has stemmed from his durability, as he has experienced one of the healthiest seasons of his career after offseason meniscus surgery. So, there would have been no bigger shame than to see that all come crashing down with a late-season injury to derail this magical year.
And for a brief, scary moment, it seemed like that might be a possibility. JB missed back-to-back games out of nowhere with left achilles tendinitis before returning on Monday night and shooting 9-29 from the floor with 6 turnovers in one of his worst performances in a long time.
Needless to say, there was some serious concern around the health of the Celtics’ superstar, and the last thing fans wanted to see was another achilles injury to one of the Jays.
Brown dominates the Heat
So, it was extremely comforting to see Brown come out on Wednesday night in Miami and explode right out of the gates, putting any talk about an achilles injury to rest immediately. He scored the team’s first 11 points, getting inside for two easy buckets, knocking down a three, getting to the line for two free throws, then driving for a layup.

He completely dominated the first quarter, finishing with 20 points, scoring at all three levels, and flashing several highlight reel plays. In other words, looking like the typical Jaylen Brown we’ve come to know and love this season, and certainly not someone hampered by an injury.
Jaylen's achilles looked extremely healthy
Jaylen finished with 43 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists as the Celtics cruised to a 147-129 beatdown of the Heat. He shot 17-29 from the floor, 4-10 from three, 5-7 from the free throw line, and he turned the ball over just once on the night.

It was a vintage JB performance, and the kind of showing that has vaulted him into the MVP conversation. Seeing him click with Jayson Tatum and the team hit this ridiculous ceiling as the regular season winds down, and they start to ramp up for the playoffs has been a treat, and has fans rightfully excited about the possibilities in the playoffs.
The only thing that could ruin the vibes now would be an untimely injury, and we just got a serious scare. Luckily, we can safely say that for now, that scare is in the past and JB is back to being himself, looking as good as ever, and continuing to help the Celtics dominate the competition.
