If you thought Jaylen Brown’s Twitch streams would slow down after the Celtics bowed out of the playoffs in disappointing fashion to the 76ers, boy, were you mistaken. He was right back at it on Sunday, just one day after the Game 7 defeat, talking about the game, the season, and breaking down some of the biggest moments.
Most of the stream was quite positive and informative, and while fans may want to criticize Jaylen for this, he has been up there, speaking his mind and growing his reach through good and bad. He didn’t want to run from it after the tough loss, and for the most part, he was accountable and said what you’d want to hear.
He had lots of praise for Joel Embiid, explaining how the Sixers' big man and former MVP came back and dominated the Celtics, but he did have some other comments on Embiid that are sure to become the biggest story out of this stream, and while they may be extremely accurate, the timing of the comments makes it a tough look for JB.
Brown calls out Embiid for flopping
Brown had a lot of problems with the officiating, and he talked about it with Embiid specifically, saying, “Flopping has ruined our game. Joel Embiid is a great player, one of the best bigs in f— basketball history. He flops! He know[s] it. This ain’t breaking news.”

At face value, there really shouldn’t be anything controversial about Brown’s comments. Most Celtics fans would readily agree that Joel flops a lot; in fact, most non-Sixers fans (and frankly, even a lot of Sixers fans, I’m sure) would agree that everything he said is accurate.
But it’s a little tone deaf for JB to be out here calling out Embiid and the officials the day after the Celtics blew a 3-1 series lead against their rivals in the first round of the playoffs as a 2-seed.
Right message, wrong time
I appreciate Jaylen’s candor, and I’ve always loved him for speaking his mind and refusing to conform to the politics and nonsense that go on around the NBA. It’s great that he’s up there on the mic facing the music, win or lose.
Having said that, it feels wrong to use this opportunity to complain about refs and Embiid’s flopping when he just cooked the Celtics for three straight games and ended your season in a heartbreaking, demoralizing way.
It’s also not like nobody on the Celtics has ever flopped, and I can’t say JB has never been guilty of this basketball sin, himself. It’s definitely a plague on the game, but it’s the way it’s called, and it’s hard to blame players for trying to take advantage of the rules. I’m fine with trying to shame these players, and I love the idea of Brown being the player to start a grassroots campaign against flopping. But maybe let’s wait until the sting of this playoff failure has worn off a little.
