Montrezl Harrell has been in the news lately as he attempts to make a comeback to the NBA. There was a time when the former Sixth Man of the Year was a sought-after big man and could have been a target for the Celtics at one point, but that marriage never came to fruition.
And it’s safe to say that won’t be happening any time soon, as Harrell has come out and explained that he is not a fan of his former teammate and new Celtic, Paul George. The two famously feuded in the bubble during a game after getting into it on the court after an errant pass by PG.
Harrell is not a fan of George
These types of things happen all the time in heated NBA games, so you’d think by now it would be water under the bridge, but apparently that’s not the case at all. In a recent interview, Harrell stated that there is no love lost and that he believes the Clippers let him go because of George specifically.
“I don’t make comments about that boy. Me and that boy don’t see eye-to-eye, and we ain’t on no terms, so I don’t make comments about him. Quite frankly, I don’t care.”
It’s fascinating to see this much bad blood still existing over six years after the incident back in the bubble. Clearly, whatever happened on the court was a reflection of something much deeper that was going on between the two players and spilled over into the game.
Luckily, the Celtics have no need for Harrell, and the 32-year-old journeyman may never even play in the NBA again. He has been out of the league since 2023, when he tore his ACL, but he recently worked out for the Rockets’ G League affiliate.
This comes after playing in Australia, China, and Puerto Rico over the last three years and attempting to get his body back into playing shape. At this point, it seems like it’s now or never for Harrell if he’s ever going to revive his NBA dream.
Would be great to see Harrell and PG square off again in the NBA
If he does make it back, it will certainly be interesting to see what happens when he faces off against PG-13. Frankly, there isn’t nearly enough bad blood in the league these days, so I, for one, am all in favor of having a true rivalry between two players who don’t like each other.
George hasn’t commented on the situation, and there’s really no reason for him to do so. He should be focused on his own career and trying to help the Celtics contend for a title. He doesn’t need to stoop to the level of Harrell and comment on a situation that happened years ago with a player who’s currently not even in the league.
Having said that, if Harrell does return, I hope that George uses the dislike as fuel and goes aggressively after his former teammate to further stick it to him. It’s not like he has anything to prove, but it would be great to see some killer instinct from the future Hall of Famer.
