The Boston Celtics caputred their second win of the summer on Sunday, downing the Charlotte Hornets 87-75.
Here's what stood out:
Milos Uzan has quietly become an intriguing prospect for the Celtics
Celtics guard Milos Uzan has quietly made himself a candidate for one of the team’s two remaining two-way contract spots. Sunday was the second time in two games that Uzan played a key role in the team’s offensive success after checking in off the bench.
Boston struggled to get going against the Hornets until the undrafted rookie started running the offense. More than anything, it’s clear how valuable his ballhandling ability is for this version of the Celtics. All of a sudden, the turnovers stopped and the Cs actually managed to generate good offensive looks.
Uzan racked up 13 points, six assists, and four rebounds on an efficient 5-11 from the field and 3-6 from deep.
John Tonje showed out
The now second-year wing impressed at Cox Pavillion. After a strong showing the second-half of Boston’s Summer League opener, Tonje continued his momentum and stayed hot from beyond the arc.
He sank three of his four three-point attempts in the first half to set the tone for a strong overall showing. Tonje was undeniably the Celtics’ best source of offense throughout the entirety of their matchup with Charlotte.
The Nebraska product finished the day with 17 points and five rebounds on a crisp 6-10 shooting performance.
Tonje joined the Cs as part of the trade that sent Chris Boucher to the Utah Jazz ahead of February’s trade deadline. He spent the majority of his time up in Maine, eventually inking a two-way deal through the end of the season. As of now, he remains a free agent, and could be in the running with Uzan for a remaining two-way spot.
Dillon Mitchell is here?
After an intriguing, yet unimpressive Summer League debut on Friday, Celtics second-round pick Dillon Mitchell gave a better sample of positive things to come. He brought the same level of chaos and excitement into the game, just more consistently.
Much like Tonje, Mitchell gave the Cs a much-needed lift offensively, while playing his signature style of pesky defense and making things tough on the Hornets. The St. John’s standout tallied six steals and two blocks, making a strong case to become the newest member of Boston’s “stock exchange.”
He got out in transition multiple times and gave fans their money’s worth with some exciting finishes.

Oh, and Mitchell, who made just 6.7% of his attempts from long range in college, sank a pair of triples and looked confident shooting the ball overall.
